A REVIEW OF MAQASID SYARI’AH AND ʿURF REGARDING THE
SEBLANG DANCE TRADITION AS A LOCAL CULTURAL PRACTICE
IN BANYUWANGI
This study aims to determine whether the practice of the Seblang dance
tradition can provide benefits and public interest as well as preserve values that
align with the principles of maqasid syariah and ‘urf..
The research method employed is qualitative research. The writing in this
thesis is descriptive-analytical in nature, utilizing a philosophical, empirical, and
normative approach, and drawing on both primary and secondary data sources. The
primary data sources consist of interviews with government officials, traditional
leaders, and participants involved in the Seblang dance tradition. Meanwhile, the
secondary data sources used include books, journals, and theses related to this
research. This approach enables a systematic response to the research questions
formulated.
The results of this study indicate that the Osing ethnic community in Olehsari
Village continues to preserve and uphold their culture through the Seblang dance
tradition. From the perspective of maqasid syariah and ‘urf., the Seblang dance
tradition does not conflict with Islamic law, as it incorporates prayers, hopes, and
expressions of gratitude in the course of daily life.
