ANALYSIS OF MUI FATWA NO. 33 OF 2011 CONCERNING THE LAW ON
FOOD AND BEVERAGE COLORING FROM COCHINEAL INSECTS
Research in this thesis aims to To find out the mechanism and legal istinbath
of the Indonesian Ulema Council in determining halal in food coloring derived from
cochineal. The MUI responded to this with MUI Fatwa No.33 of 2013 related to
Food and Beverage Coloring from Cochineal Insects.
This type of research uses qualitative descriptive research methods with
document analysis techniques. The data collected came from MUI Fatwa No. 33 of
2011, related literature, as well as primary and secondary data sources.
The results showed that MUI Fatwa No. 33 of 2011 is based on sharia
principles that prioritize benefit and maintain food cleanliness and halal. This fatwa
is also based on the results of research and scientific studies that show there is no
health risk from the consumption of food and beverage coloring made from
cochineal insects, it's just that, it is not recommended for people who have allergies
to Consumption.
